Leros island – restaurants, taverns and ouzeri

The island of Leros is full of restaurants and Greek taverns where you can eat great meals of meat or fish at a good price. The local cuisine  offers some specialties that deserve to be tried as: cheese Myzethra, koukouvades (fish marinated with rosemary), pittakie with beans, salted mackerel, kolios Pastos and many others.

Local people produce syrup made of almonds called Soumada that can be mixed with water or added to some sweets.. As for sweets you will not be able to resist the mpoukakia, the sviggous and xerotigana.Leros is the only Greek island where you can find Guava, a tropical fruit which in greek is called Gavafa.

Once in Leros you cannot miss the visit to Al Fico d’India da Gabriella. Located in Lakki this small italian restaurant offers speciality from Apulian region on Italy. Small and intimate, you will find daily specials, it is a limited menu and strictly Italian. Definitly worth a visit!

One of the best tavernas on the island of Leros is Neromylos in Agia Marina, located directly on the beach in front of an old mill. In the evening is particularly romantic to dine at tables set up next to the sea with spectacular views across the bay. Takis, the owner, runs the kitchen and can advise on the best specialties based on seafood (recommended prawns, stuffed calamari and grilled fish in general).

Fish restaurants in Pandeli bay – Leros

In Platanos village, around the main square, there are some local taverns and ouzeri recommended for quick dishes such as gyros pita or souvlaki; ouzeri at corner prepares souvlaki (kebabs) on the barbecue set back on the road in a very friendly atmosphere. Most of the visitor here are locals. It is nice to spend some time here and have a glass of ouzo or wine.

If you love fisg and real greek taverna you will find the best places in Pandeli. On the waterfront are located some traditional fish restaurants on Leros, well known in all Dodecanese. Offering rich menu of dishes based on fresh fish: Tzouma ouzeri is famous for different types of ouzo and offers excellent fish meze, the tavern Psaropoula  is located on the beach  and ‘recommended for fish on the grill as  Dimitris Karafas  on the hill, is a restaurant with a wide selection of meze and other dishes for excellent seafood and meat.
